South
Rhins Community Development Trust (SRCDT)
SRCDT
is a Scottish Charitable Trust, formed in November 1998 following
various committee meetings in the Kirkmaiden and Stoneykirk
communities over a period of one and a half years.
The
aims of the Trust are:
-
to
support agricultural development and diversification
-
development
of tourism which builds on the environment, heritage,
culture and location
-
increase
opportunities for women and young people
-
improve
access to social and community facilities
-
to
promote, establish and operate/support other schemes and
projects of a charitable nature for the benefit of the
South Rhins community.
Our
vision for the future of the South Rhins is of a community
with a healthy economy, based on agriculture and tourism,
with a healthy, thriving and enterprising population.
The area will have created a strong identity for itself
– building on its produce, heritage, culture, environment
and location – and its already strong community spirit.
The
development of tourism for the South Rhins has been a major
interest. Here
the aim is to increase awareness of the area as a tourist
destination, increase numbers of visitors and their length
of stay. This
will support local businesses, help sustain local tourism
jobs, encourage development of new tourist enterprises and
help generate further jobs in existing and new enterprises.
We
have provided a Welcome Pack, with brochures and leaflets
and information about our area.
This will be found on all Caravan/Camp sites, in all
Hotels and Guest Houses.
Visitor Survey forms should be available to you along
with the Welcome Pack and we hope you will take the time to
complete one to enable us to improve local facilities and
services.
We
hope our new road signs, directing you to the area and to
the Visitor Centre at the Mull of Galloway will help you to
find us. The
Visitor Centre was completed and opened in 2000 and has proved
to be a great attraction.
More information about the area can be obtained from
our voluntarily run Kirkmaiden Information Centre in Drummore.
We
hope to include as much information as possible, for you,
on our website which is still very young – we would welcome
your comments.
We
hope you enjoy your stay.
Funding
has come from the European Regional Fund, Scottish National
Heritage, Dumfries & Galloway Council and Scottish Enterprise
Dumfries & Galloway.
