| Ardwell
Bay |

To
get to Ardwell bay follow the A716 from Sandhead.Turn
off at Lake Cottage, signposted to Kirkmadrine Stones.
Follow this road without turning off. You will come
to a crossroads at Clachanmore. Continue on without
turning off and you will reach Ardwell Bay, one to two
miles further on, past High Ardwell Farm.
The
road down to the bay is quite rough, but is still accessible
by car. Once at the Bay you will find a lovely sheltered
and sandy cove with plenty of parking space and picnic
sites. There is a small slipway to launch small boats.
The beach is very popular with families. There are a
lot of interesting rock pools which are a haven for
young children to look for sea creatures.
You
will see a signpost to Doone Broch where you will see
the Rings of an Iron Age fort on the headland - this
is believed to date from between 200 BC and 200AD ,
probably pre-Pict.

| Chapel
Rossan Bay |

Follow
the A716 from Sandhead. On the south side of Ardwell,
whilst still being in the 40 mph road limit, you will
find an attractive picnic site on your left.
There
is ample parking pace here, along with picnic tables
and toilet. This picnic area is next to the beach.
You
will see excellent views across Luce Bay towards the
Machars, and in the distance you will see the Galloway
Hills.

| Clanyard
Bay |

Follow
the A716 from Sandhead and turn off the road at Kilstay
Caravan Park. At the first Junction turn right and immediately
turn left.
The
bay is accessed by foot through Castle Clanyard Farm
and permission should be requested from the farmer before
parking close by and walking a short way.The
beach is stoney but very popular for rock fishing.

| Port
Logan Bay |

To
get to Port Logan follow the A716 towards Drummore.
Turn off on to the B7065 for Port Logan. The bay has
an excellent sandy beach with stretches round to the
Logan Fish Pond. The old harbour and lighthouse gives
the village its main focal point and provides shelter
for small boats to be launched from the slipway. Many
people fish from the old pier. There is ample car parking,
a picnic area and a play park.
The
sheltered cove attracts many water sports, including
windsurfing, canoeing and water skiing. This bay was
used in the production of the BBC drama series 2000
Acres of Sky”. The sunsets can be as spectacular
as those seen on the programme. On the north side of
the bay is Logan Fish Pond.

| New
England Bay |

New
England Bay is situated on the A716 to Drummore, approximately
two miles from the village of Ardwell.
The
main Caravan Club Site is based here, attracting many
visitors to the area each season.
The
beach has a good stretch of sand and is very popular
with children and families. The beach is fairly sheltered
and used in connection with many watersports and sailing.
There is a good picnic site with tables and toilet facility.
Early risers will catch sight of wonderful sunrises
from this beach!

| Sandhead
Bay |

To
get to Sandhead follow the A716 from Stranraer or the
A715 from Glenluce. This will be the longest stretch
of sandy beach in the South Rhins. Luce Sands run for
approximately five miles from Sandhead to Glenluce.
There
is unlimited sand, especially so when the tide is out.
There is ample car parking, picnic tables, good toilet
facilities and a play area for children.
Small
boats can be launched at high tide at both Sandhead
Bay and the nearby Sandmill beach (access through the
Sands of Luce Caravan Site). Wind surfing and water
skiing is also very popular within this sheltered bay.
Sandhead Caravan site is also situated along the beach.

Other Bays in the
South Rhins |

There
are various picnic sites along the A 716 from Sandhead,
overlooking Luce Bay
 |

Drummantrae,
with its stony beach where the fishing is good
– Terally where the rock formations are beautiful
- and Kilstay where there is a safe beach.
Drummore
Bay can be reached via the A716 from Sandhead,
going into Drummore and turning left at the T
junction, and left again into to Shore Street.
This sandy beach is a safe one, with a view of
Drummore Harbour.

Terally
Bay
|
|
You
can reach Back Bore and walk along Cairngarroch Bay
by turning right at Drummore harbour. There is a picnic
area with easy access to the beach at the south end
of Cairngarroch Bay.
