GOLF

There are four well established golf courses within driving distance of the South Rhins:

 Portpatrick (Dunskey and Dinvin) Golf Club
 Lagganmore Golf Club
 Stranraer Golf Club

Portpatrick (Dunskey and Dinvin) Golf Club
Golf Course Road, Portpatrick

Location: 8 miles south west of Stranraer off the A77. 
Yardage:
the dunskey golf courseThe Dunskey Course is 18 holes – 5882 yards SSS 69. Links/Coastal Cliff.
The Dinvin Course, 9 holes - 1504 yards - Par 27. Parkland/heath.

Clubhouse:
Fairly modern building with shower, changing and toilet facilities for both ladies and gents. There is a well stocked bar, dining area and very pleasant lounge. Catering facilities are usually available at all times throughout the season.

Playing arrangements:
Golfers can normally be accommodated through the week, but at the weekends it is prudent to book ahead. Recognised golfing societies and parties are welcome provided previous arrangements have been made with the secretary. Golf carts and trolleys are available for hire, and handicap certificates are required for the Dunskey Course. The tee is reserved for members Monday to Friday from 9.00 to 9.30am and from 12.30 to 1.30pm. Saturday and Sunday from 8.30 to 10.00am and 11.30 to 1.30pm

The course:
There are two courses in this complex - 18 hole Dunskey Course and 9 hole par 3 Dinvin Course. Dunskey has been described by Golf World as "The best holiday course in the South of Scotland". Set on the cliffs above the picturesque village of Portpatrick, a links type course with magnificent views of the Irish Coast, the Isle of Man and the Mull of Kintyre. The 9 hole Dinvin Course is adjacent to the Dunskey course for those without a handicap.

Lagganmore Golf Club Plus 8 bay floodlit Driving Range

Location: 1.5 miles south west of Portpatrick off the A77. 
Yardage: 18 holes – 5807 yards SSS 69 (Provisional). Parkland/heathland.

Clubhouse:
This has
changing and toilet facilities for both ladies and gents. There is a bar and catering is available throughout the season.

Playing arrangements:
This is a pay and play facility so there are no tee times to be booked. There are no dress restrictions.

The course:
This is a new course laid out on agricultural land near to Portpatrick - a mixture of parkland and heathland would best describe it.

Notable Holes:
There are two very good long par 5's - the 7th at 476 yards and the 10th at 535 yards. There are plans afoot to construct another tee for the 10th which will increase the yardage to 600. An excellent tee for all golfers.

Stranraer Golf Club
Creachmore, Leswalt, Stranraer

Location: 3 miles from Stranraer on the A718 road to Kirkcolm. 
Yardage: 18 holes – 6308 yards SSS 72. Coastal parkland.

Clubhouse:
Offers full facilities and also caters for the disabled. From the first floor lounge bar, a view of most of the course can be enjoyed along with the backdrop of Loch Ryan and the passing Irish ferries. Catering is available at all times with hospitality to make everyone feel at home.

Playing arrangements:
It is advisable to check in advance to confirm that the tee off time you require is available. Trolley hire available. Handicap certificates may be required.

Playing arrangements:
Designed by James Braid, and with views to take your breath away, it offers golfers, regardless of handicap, the chance of an unforgettable game of golf. The SSS of 72 with a yardage of 6308 tells its own story. The course, set on the North Rhinns peninsula, with wonderful views of the Isle of Arran and Ailsa Craig, is on undulating ground with a burn to catch out the unwary. This gem of a course is a must for golfers visiting the area.

Wigtownshire County Golf Club

Location: 8 miles east of Stranraer off the A75.
Yardage: 18 holes - 5847 yards SSS 68. Links.

Clubhouse:
Recently rebuilt and refurbished. Changing and shower facilities for ladies and gents. A well stocked bar and catering is available throughout the year. Disabled facilities are also available. You will be sure of a warm welcome from the Club Manager and the Steward.

Playing arrangements:
During the week individual golfers can be accommodated without too much difficulty, but it must be remembered that the course is popular with visiting parties and it may be prudent to telephone ahead to book your tee time. Recognised golfing societies and parties are made most welcome, but should book in advance to reserve tee times. Trolleys available for hire.

The course:
The 'County' Golf Club is a true links course and is situated on the shores of the scenic Luce Bay. The excellent condition of the course, combined with subtly sloping greens and changing sea breezes, provide a test of golf for both high and low handicappers.

Yardage:
During the week individual golfers can be catered for reasonably well. Large parties and coach trips are advised to book ahead.
