The road down to the bay is quite rough, but is still accessible by car. Once at the Bay you will find a lovely sheltered and sandy cove with plenty of parking space and picnic sites. There is a small slipway to launch small boats. The beach is very popular with families. There are a lot of interesting rock pools which are a haven for young children to look for sea creatures. You will see a signpost to Doone Broch where you will see the Rings of an Iron Age fort on the headland - this is believed to date from between 200 BC and 200AD , probably pre-Pict. |

To get to Ardwell bay follow the A716 from Sandhead.Turn off at Lake Cottage, signposted to Kirkmadrine Stones. Follow this road without turning off. You will come to a crossroads at Clachanmore. Continue on without turning off and you will reach Ardwell Bay, one to two miles further on, past High Ardwell Farm.
