Ardwall Bay Print E-mail

ardwell bayTo get to Ardwell bay follow the A716 from Sandhead.Turn off at Lake Cottage, signposted to Kirkmadrine Stones. Follow this road without turning off. You will come to a crossroads at Clachanmore. Continue on without turning off and you will reach Ardwell Bay, one to two miles further on, past High Ardwell Farm.

The road down to the bay is quite rough, but is still accessible by car. Once at the Bay you will find a lovely sheltered and sandy cove with plenty of parking space and picnic sites. There is a small slipway to launch small boats. The beach is very popular with families. There are a lot of interesting rock pools which are a haven for young children to look for sea creatures.

You will see a signpost to Doone Broch where you will see the Rings of an Iron Age fort on the headland - this is believed to date from between 200 BC and 200AD , probably pre-Pict.
