Logan Fish Pond Print E-mail

Located on the opposite side of the sandy bay to the pretty seaside village of Port Logan is located the Logan Fish Pond and Marine Life Centre.   It has been in existence for over 2010 years.   In the year 2000 it celebrated its Bicentennial, 1800 – 2000.  For an opportunity to get up close and personal with some beautiful marine life, and also to learn about them, then THIS is the place to visit.

In 1788 Andrew McDouall Laird of Logan decided to create a Fish Larder for storing live sea fish by adapting a natural rock formation on the shore. The work took 12 years and was finished in 1800.
Recent additions to the original pond include Touch Pools, Cave Aquarium and Gift Shop. There is a Victorian Bathing Hut and Pool adjacent to the pond, which was used by the ladies of Logan House.

Visitors can enjoy exploring the touch pools, find out what a starfish feels like and what it eats.
Many varieties of sea urchins and fish can be seen. These are all originally from the waters in and around Port Logan.
